Workshop by Dr. Scott Highhouse
Title:
Addressing common professional misconceptions about assessment
Abstract:
Although we are well-aware of lay misconceptions about assessment, there exist some professional misconceptions as well. This intentionally provocative talk will focus on three general myths held by many knowledgeable assessment professionals. These include (a) the idea that knowing more about a candidate is better than knowing less, (b) the idea that we are improving the validity of the job interview, and (c) the idea that we are on the cusp of validity breakthroughs in assessment.
About Dr. Highhouse:
Scott Highhouse is a Professor and Ohio Eminent Scholar at Bowling Green State University. He received his PhD in 1992 from University of Missouri at St. Louis. Scott has been named a fellow of the American Psychological Association, Association for Psychological Science, and Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and currently sits on the board of directors of the International Personnel Testing Council. He was co-editor with Neal Schmitt of the I-O volume of Wiley’s 2013
Handbook of Psychology
. Currently he is founding editor of the new scientific journal
