Abstract: MyCareer@VA is an interactive, online career development experience that empowers current and potential VA employees to create a personalized career plan. Using the website’s five custom-built tools, users can achieve new professional goals, hone your skills, and map a personalized path toward career fulfillment. This one-of-a-kind website represents VA’s commitment to supporting employees throughout their career with training, education, and developmental opportunitiesundefinedall customized to the person’s chosen career path!
During this presentation, we will provide a demo of the MyCareer@VA portal and lessons learned from developing and implementing an enterprise-wide online tool across VA. We will also discuss the importance of connecting career development tools and resources to support recruitment, retention, and engagement in an organization.
Ben Porr is a Managing Consultant at FMP with experience leading the development and implementation of strategic human capital and IT initiatives. In his current role, Dr. Porr leads a team of consultants across a variety of consulting engagements, primarily for Federal government organizations. His background is in the study of human behavior and has specialized in building and maintaining effective organizations by understanding how employees interact with their environment (e.g., colleagues, supervisors, IT systems, organizational culture).
Anne Scaduto joined FMP in 2010 and is currently working with the Department of Veterans Affairs on the MyCareer@VA career development and exploration website. She also works with the Defense Intelligence Agency developing candidate assessment training for hiring managers. Her past experiences include work on selection test development, assessment centers, and training evaluation.
Jenna Bender is a Consultant at FMP. She has worked closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Learning University (VALU) to implement strategic communications for the Department’s premiere career development program, MyCareer@VA. She has also supported the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Public Radio (NPR). Jenna’s areas of expertise include career development, performance management and training.
